Marrying in church is personal, meaningful and spiritual, just as you want it to be. Churches are special and unique places to get married in – the prayers, promises and the whole service of celebration become part of your marriage, on the day itself and beyond. As we are a group of churches, providing you have a connection with a church in the group, you can choose which church to marry in.
Bookings for weddings are taken at the office, and the booking form must be signed by both parties. You also need to provide evidence that you are a UK citizen and entitled and free to be married in the church.
Evidence needed to prove eligibility – both parties will need to provide:
- In date UK passport (if you do not have a passport please contact the office as there are other documents which are required – eg birth certificates/mother’s birth certificate/deed poll certificate if you have changed your name other than through previous marriage etc)
- Document to prove you live in the parish (utility bill)
- Decree Absolute if you are a divorcee (and please speak to the Vicar about this)
The cost of marrying in church varies each year – there is a fee set by the Diocese which covers the Diocese charges and the local Church’s charges, you will require a verger to assist on the day and you can add organist and bells (depending on the church) – the fees will be explained to you when you book.
Banns will be read during the three months preceding your wedding day, you will be advised of when these will be when the invoice is sent out. Fees are appreciated at least one month before the actual day.
If you are getting married in a church outside our Group, but live within the Group, you will need to have banns read at your local church – please contact the Parish Office to arrange this.
